'The Morgan Horses'

In June of 2014 we made the long drive to the Saskatchewan border to pick up 12 Morgan horses = 9 mares, 2 stallions, and 1 gelding.  It was a fairly typical situation where the owners were divorced, one ended up with the horses, and then later on, faced with health issues that prevented him for continuing to look after them, we were contacted and asked to help.  We were thankful that Arlene, the caretaker of the horses, was there to help us catch and load them.  The  two 15 year old stallions fortunately were handled and reasonably well-behaved.      We headed out early in the morning and didn't arrive back home until well after dark.  We were concerned about one of the horses that seemed to be having difficulty standing throughout the long trip so we ended up stopping often for them to rest and then again stopped at our vet clinic and borrowed their corrals to unload some of the horses to allow them more rest before coming back for them later that night.
They were beautiful horses, and all went on to new homes, save Junior, one of the ex-stallions, and Berlinetta, the oldest mare, who was the only one in poor condition when they arrived.  Berlinetta passed away 5 years later at the age of 29 due to heart failure and her write up can be found on the Rainbow Bridge page.  Junior passes away in 2021 suddenly, cause unknown. His write up is also on the Rainbow Bridge page.
