Joanie
Joanie is a pretty buckskin mare. She was an ASPCA seizure in 2009, extremely underweight, with a young foal, and with a serious injury to her back leg that had not been treated. She spent 4 months at a clinic where at first they were just trying to keep her going long enough for her foal to be weaned (at 2 months), at which point they were going to put her down as she was not responding well to treatment and she was hard to handle. Mike convinced them to give her another chance and fortunately she improved enough both in treatment and handling that they decided not to her put down. After her foal was weaned (and adopted by someone at the clinic), we brought Joanie here to continue treating her leg. I'm not sure of her age, she was probably born around 2003. Her injury refuses to heal completely and we had it completely debrided in early 2015. Joanie is fostered by Janine, one of our board members, along with others of our special needs horses.
