Dallas#3
Dallas#3 came to us in early March, 2023 from another rescue that had saved him off a meat truck. Dallas was estimated to be 12 to 14 years old at the time, but we believe he may be a little older, born possibly in about 2003. Dallas was a little underweight and still a stallion, and a cryptorchid to boot (one testicle was retained) when we got him. He was given to us because gelding surgery on a cryptorchid can be quite expensive and the other rescue didn't have the funds for his surgery. We had Dallas gelded in early May of 2023. Thankfully his surgery was not as involved as it could have been and went well. However, while sedated for surgery, Dallas was also diagnosed with EOTRH - Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis is a painful, progressive equine dental condition that usually involves removing all the incisors. This dental work could not be done during his gelding surgery as the risk of spreading infection would be too great. As of now Dallas is not painful so we'll deal with his dental issues later on when it becomes necessary. He tends to be nervous and is a hard keeper so he gets extra feed twice daily.
Dallas is living with other horses now and is happy. We're very happy that Dallas can live out his life with other horses, without creating more horses!
