Biscuit
Biscuit is a 2003 Thoroughbred bay gelding who was originally rescued from a feedlot and surrendered to us in 2008. He has a swayed back (genetic), but is friendly and quiet. Only just halterbroke, he does not like to have his feet handled but he's a nice horse to be around.
Biscuit cut his front foot quite badly in June of 2023. In July, when the wound was still not healing properly, we had him xrayed to check for bone infection and to make sure there wasn't more serious damage internally. His xrays didn't show any signs for concern, but the vet suggested cutting away the proud-flesh that had developed and applying a cast for 1 month to try to promote better healing. Biscuit is not good to sedate or to handle his feet (he was quite difficult during his xrays) so we didn't feel he'd be a candidate for casting due to the manner in which it has to be applied. Instead we've modified his wound care and have been having very good success with it and the wound is now closing on its own. We'll continue his care as long as necessary to allow the wound to heal completely.
